The Three Pillars of Cold Call Success

I will be the first to readily admit that I am a glutton for punishment. My life’s motto can be summed up thusly: if it ain’t hard, it ain’t worth doing. We are inundated in society today with how we should go after things that are easy. We can lose weight in five days without working out or changing our diets. Easy! We can attend one online seminar, take down some vital information, and be rich by the end of the month. Easy!

Just because something is easy, does it make it worthwhile? Looking back on my life, I have grown more, both personally and professionally, from actively doing things that were hard. It is the hard that makes it good.

If it is hard, I have to dig deep to try to figure it out. If it is hard, I have to use my ingenuity, creativity, and problem solving skills to reach a successful resolution. If I am able to do so, I have learned a new skill, am filled with confidence, and have a historical example of me accomplishing something that I wasn’t sure I was able to from the onset.

It is with this in mind that I have always embraced cold calling. Don’t for one second believe that cold calling is dead! Folks that would have you think that way are folks that would rather pursue things that are easier than cold calling. It is easier to send out a mass e-mail, so do that! It is easier to put together a direct mail piece, so do that! It is easier to join a multitude of networking groups, so do that!

I am here to tell you that if you dig deep, work hard, think outside the box, and approach it in an entirely new way, cold calling can be mastered. In my role as Founder of The Cold Call Coach, I have worked with professional sports team, Fortune 500 companies, as well as solo entrepreneurs and stay-at-home moms who sell products on the side for fun.

No matter whom you are, what you do, or the services that you provide, cold calling can work for you! Cold calling is very effective if we focus on what I deem the three pillars of a successful approach: strategy, structure, and psychology.

The first, strategy, is ensuring that you can readily identify, quantify, and locate your ideal client. If the individual or organization is not your most perfect, ideal client, we should not bother reaching out to them via cold calling. As a financial services professional, I had an uncanny ability of calling the right person at the right time who had the right need and I could deliver the right value add proposition.

Imagine how much easier cold calling would be if you were calling entities, time and time again, that already knew they needed you. Imagine how much less work you would have to do selling yourself and could rather focus your efforts on providing a valuable service. We work with our clients to get an effective strategy in place, which is the most important aspect of our approach.

Next, we focus on structure. What do you say to schedule appointments with your ideal clients? What do you say to get your voice messages returned time and time again? What do you say to bypass the gatekeeper with regularity and use that person as a source of endorsement?

No matter your business or the services that you provide, we will work hand-in-hand with you to customize scripts that you feel comfortable delivering, are full of value add propositions, pique the curiosity of your ideal clients, and that deliver measurable results quickly.

Finally, we place a specific emphasis on cold call psychology in an effort to realize the outcomes we are striving for. Now, this does not mean we are tricking people, nor does it mean that we are brainwashing or manipulating them. Any individual or organization that tries to sell you on cold call scripts that rely on deceit, deception, or a play on words, you should run from as fast as you can.

With cold call psychology, we are simply calling attention to the things that we all know about and that we do all day, every day.
